Books banned, redundantly.

Two books, Join the Caravan and In Defence of Muslim Lands, have been forcibly removed from the University of Melbourne Library.
The joint statement by the Council of Australian University Librarians, Australian Library and Information Association, Australian Society of Authors and International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions can be found here.

However, I have just discovered that the naughty, naughty texts are available online!
Join the Caravan and In Defence of Muslim Lands can be very easily located and read on the web.

The website they are on seems a tad pro-Jihad so I don't know if one can get in trouble for going there too often or linking to the site, but I just wanted to point out the stupidity of the fools banning the books.
Fuckwits!

Lentil Gnomes

Since I've been purchasing, cooking and eating lentils, I've discovered individual uncooked lentils in strange places around the house.
Maybe there's Lentil Gnomes who occasionally drop one on their way home after raiding my pantry?
Just a thought.

Timelord Wines

While checking out this clever little wine offer, I discovered Galafrey Wines.
I got all excited thinking some dedicated Who fans got together, grew a vineyard and launched a wine company.
Then I remembered Gallifrey was spelled as such.
It was a brief shiny moment of dreams of the finest time-travelling wines.

Buck Angel II

Well, the original link I provided for Buck Angel is now gone.
Buck speaks about it here.
Buck still has two other blog though, here and here.
He's also got multiple other sites, a quick googling will provide.
Again, not suitable for work.

Nothing Changes in Child (Un)Protection

The RiotACT has this post updating the situation regarding the Vardon report which I originally spoke about here.

While I'd like to continue pointing the finger at Child (Un)Protection, I really think the problem lies with the bureaucratic bs involved in trying to remove a child from a dangerous situation along with the legislation that overarches the agency's action.

I'd love to read more about Ms Gallagher's recommendations.

New Eyes

I collected my new eyes from OPSM yesterday.
They are really quite strong.
I feel rather nauseas if I'm doing anything other than reading/watching tv type-stuff with them on.
I've got quite a headache atm.
When I take them off I still have quite a headache and it's all rather painful.
I hope my eyes and brain bend in the approriate manner soon.

I'm a bit annoyed with the frames too.
They looked much better in the shop without the lenses making my eyes look all big :(
Andy says, 'They're fine', but he says that about everything.

Greg is surviving Japan. Hoorah!
It also appears that Julia got to Perth alive.

Greg succesfully delivered.

I have successfully delivered Greg to the airport. He was a bit jittery and nearly forgot his suitcase as we were leaving his house but he'll be fine. A long night for him as he lands in Japan around 10am tomorrow, Canberra time.

I feel sorry for those stuck behind me on the way to the airport though. I couldn't see much, I have a flu and wasn't 100% sure where I was going. Oh well, I'm also often stuck behind a slow person, lives are more important than some cranky people getting home a tad sooner.

Tomorow evening Julia gets delivered to the airport. She's moving to Perth for a few months.

Anywhooo, I'm bloody crook so I'm going to try and get back to sleep now.

The farcical letter of the law.

,With my limited knowledge of feminist law theories I would like to announce I am jumping on the bandwagon.
Having seen ‘the law’ in action, I can not help but jump.

Witnessing normative notions applied to non-normative situations and people with limited knowledge of a situation making judgments about the safety and best interests of another person has infuriated and enraged me.

Applying feminist legal values to this ‘letter of the law’ that is so ingrained in our society, so revered, would take an enormous amount of effort, I do not deny that.
But the difference it would make in the long run would make the struggle truly worthwhile.

Perhaps evidence of how ridiculous this ‘letter’ is, is the fact that I saw one of the primary participants in the process, a solicitor, not only nearly cry after hearing a decision another solicitor had made before entering the courtroom but also agree with a client that she too has no faith in the system.

Here, I am applying a limited knowledge of feminist law perspectives and the law itself to a real life situation and it is certainly not an academic well informed argument; however it does provide perspective and context on real life situations.

So I think of all these wonderful things I could post on here and then when I get time to breath all I can be arsed posting is some quiz that I did.
How dull.
At least I can console myself with the fact that I'm writing all sorts of wonderous and interesting thoughts during the day.

Oh look and according to this I'm a right mess, with scores of 91 for anxiety and 97 for anger.
Maybe I'll try again in a few months when things calm down a bit.
